Motivation is the inner power or energy that pushes toward acting, performing actions and achieving. Motivation has much to do with desire and ambition, and if they are absent, motivation is absent too.

What can you do to enhance your motivation and awaken the power that will push you toward accomplishing your dreams, small and big? Here are a few suggestions:

Set a goal. If you have a major goal, it would be a good idea if you split it into several minor goals, each small goal leading to your major goal. In this way, you will find it easier to motivate yourself, as you will not feel overwhelmed by the size of your goal and the things you have to do, and the goal would seem more feasible and easier to accomplish.

Understand that finishing what you start is important. Hammer into your mind that whatever you start you have to finish. Develop the habit of going to the finish line.

Socialize with achievers and people with similar interests or goals, since motivation and positive attitude are contagious. Associate with motivated people, who share your interests.

Never procrastinate anything. Procrastination leads to laziness, and laziness leads to lack of motivation.

Persistence, patience and not giving up despite failure and difficulties keep up the motivation to succeed.

Read about the subjects of your interest. This will keep your enthusiasm and ambition alive.

Constantly affirm to yourself that you can and will succeed.

Look at photos of things you want to get, achieve or do.

Visualize your goals with happiness and joy.

Remember, if a certain goal is really important, you need motivation to keep you going.

We are given a pair of eyes, which we use as our “lens” to view the world around us. Often the perspective we see can be one of negativity and darkness, which can have an adverse impact on our thinking and actions.

It is said that our thinking is a pattern of response to life. In order to be able to think diferently, we must think with awareness. By changing your “lens” that you look through, you will see things differently.

When you think negative thoughts, or view a situation in negative light, change your perspecive by trying to use someone else’s lens. Think of someone you admire, you respect, or someone you want to emulate. Put on their lens for a moment, and take a look look at the situation you’re facing. By taking a brief moment and trying to see things in a more positive or brighter light, your thinking may change…as well as your actions.

So next time you find yourself thinking negative thoughts, or feel like a situation is going in the wrong direction, or just don’t like what you see…change your lens. Borrow one from someone you know who you think would thrive and succeed in such a situation.

Oh, btw. As a Canon photographer, may I suggest using Canon lenses!

I found it interesting listening to someone else talk about “Golden Nuggets” and how important it is to share them with others. I was actually inspired as I related immediately with the value of sharing life’s little lessons with others. My personal blog is all about collecting my life’s golden nuggets and giving them to others so they may grow as well.

Some of the rules shared about “Golden Nuggets” as soon as life reveals them to you:

Teach the golden nugget to someone else in your life

Sharing and teaching has a boomerang effect, often referred as “Paying it Forward.” The more you teach, the more you learn!

You learn at a much deeper level when you teach, versus learning a lesson from others

Be responsible for your own expansion, and help others to expand

Be a leader and role model by teaching

That’s my golden nugget to share for today!

If we watch at least 1 less hour of TV per day for the next year, that
will give you 365 extra hours, or the equivalent of fifteen 24hr days,
to pursue more worthwhile/meaningful activities.

Suggestions:
Read a book
Learn something new
Talk to an old friend / make a new one
Exercise / do something physically healthy for your body
Spend it with family or friends
Talk to your children, siblings,parents
If you are religious, do something religious or meditation
Rediscover your old hobbies that brought you joy

Be creative! Do what you always wanted to do, or made excuses you said
you never have time for. Time is worth more than money, spend it wisely!

“Lost time,” declared Benjamin Franklin, “is never found again.”

That’s my golden nugget for today.

P.S. I should include “Dont type on your iPhone large entries, because
it takes much longer than on a real computer. Waste if valuable
time!

Quick lessons taken from a chapter in The One Minute Entrepreneur:

You’ll be the same year after year, except for the people you meet and the books you read
You can get what you want in life if you help others get what they want
Lead with your ears
Success occurs when opportunity and preparation meet
It’s not who you know that counts; it’s who knows you and what they think of you
When you feel moments impacting your destiny, seize the opportunity

Many people in society define “Success” as a well-paid career, a big home, named brand clothing, and a luxury car. Obviously not every does, but many do – and this perception can influence or impact how we live our lives.

I just read how Ralph Waldo Emerson defines success:

To laugh often and love much;
To win the respect of intelligent persons and the affection of children;
To earn the approval of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty;
To find the best in others;
To give of one’s self without the slightest thought of return;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a rescued soul, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To have played and laughed with enthusiam and sung with exaltation;
To know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived;
This is to have succeeded.

All aspects of Emerson’s definition of success are attainable away from the workplace, and does not focus on material items as a source of happiness / success.
